Two of the premier teams in the Twin Valley League met up on the softball diamond on Friday and the games didn't disappoint between the visiting Troy girls and the Onaga Lady Buffalo softball teams.
In game 1, Troy was able to get on the board first as a leadoff walk to Emerson Weber and the game's first hit by Gracie Grable would put Troy up 1-0. Grable would come around to score on a Mackenna Thomas double and after a half inning Troy led by 2. Onaga would answer back in the bottom of the 2nd as Annie Force hit a 3 run home run and the Buffaloes led 3-2. Force was just 1 for 3 in the game but made her only hit of the game count tremendously.
In the top of the 3rd, Troy would get a lead off double from Thomas who would score on a Jaya Weishaar hit. Mackenzie Christenson would add a 2 RBI single to give the Lady Trojans the lead back at 5-3.
Onaga starting pitcher Bridgette Campbell tried to help her own cause as she hit a home run to center in the bottom of the inning but that was as close as Onaga would get as both pitchers started to gain control allowing no runs after Campbell's hit. Troy took the 6-4 win with Grace McConnaughey taking the victory in the circle allowing 2 hits and striking out 4 in 5 innings.
In Game 2, the Onaga hitters went on a tangent, scoring a single run in each inning from the 2nd to the 5th. After a Jadyn Haskin triple, Force would reach on an error and scoring Haskin. Hits by Addison Dechant and Abbie Ringel set the table for an Emma Conger RBI knock to left field to tie the game at 2 after 3 innings.
From there Buffalo pitching ace Willow Hochstedler took over, posting zeroes throughout the rest of the game. Hochstedler struck out 7 in a complete game, only giving up those two early runs as Onaga would take the 10-2 victory.
Onaga, 10-4 on the season, takes the field tomorrow April 23rd against Centralia-Frankfort. The Troy girls, now 9-5, are at ACCHS this afternoon.
