For the 2nd straight week, the Axtell Eagles were able to put up 70 points on an opponent as Eric Detweiler's team is 2-0 on the season and have their incredible win streak at 41 as they blasted Washington County with another mercy rule win.
Brandon Schmelzle still hasn't thrown an incomplete pass in 2024 as he was 7 for 7 on Friday for 120 and 4 touchdowns. Schmelzle connected with Colin Shaughnessy on TD passes from 16 and 42. Shaughnessy would later catch one more score, his longest of the night of 47, this time coming from Wyatt Detweiler.
In total, Axtell had just short of 300 yards of total offense in 11 minutes of time of possession. For Washington County, Gavyn Leduc would finish 20 yards rushing on 6 carries and Easton Finlayson would add 7 more on the ground. Axtell now 2-0 will take on 1-1 Chase County in week 3. The Bulldogs had an equally dominating win in week 2 taking down Wichita Independent 70-14. This game will take place in Cottonwood Falls.
