The Doniphan West baseball showed terrific poise at the plate and didn't turn a matchup with Frankfort into a home run derby in their 18-8 win. Instead, Doniphan West's strong eye at the plate that separated these two, tallying 19 walks for the game.
Cooper Eberly, Prezten Pace, Hayden Paolino, and Tabin Clary led the team with three walks each. Pace, Kolter Peterson, and Dustin Veach each stole multiple bases for D-West. Doniphan West amassing eight stolen bases for the game.
Doniphan West captured the lead, 6-3, in the bottom of the fourth after Tabin Clary grounded out, Brett Heim walked, Rucker Harring walked, Cooper Eberly walked, Hayden Paolino walked, and Kolter Peterson walked, each scoring one run. That's 5 runs without a single swing of the bat.
Wes Anderson and Henry Ketter each collected two hits for Frankfort.
Frankfort got on the board in the top of the first inning after Anderson doubled down the left field line, scoring one run.
Frankfort made the score 7-6 in the top of the fifth after Ketter doubled, scoring two runs, Lane Loiseau grounded out, scoring one run, and an error scored another
Doniphan West retook the lead 10-7, in the bottom of the fifth after Veach and Cooper Eberly each walked, Hayden Paolino grounded out, and Dustin Veach stole home, each scoring one run.
Doniphan West broke out with eight runs on four hits in the bottom of the sixth inning. After Rucker Harring Kayson Keller were each struck by a pitch, driving in runs, Cooper Eberly doubled, scoring two runs.
Hayden Paolino drew a walk, scoring one run, Kolter Peterson had a 2 RBI single and Brett Heim singled, scoring a run as well. Peterson went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Doniphan West in hits. Cooper Eberly and Kolter Peterson each drove in three runs for Doniphan West.
Dustin Veach earned the win for Doniphan West. The starter gave up three hits and three runs (two earned) over three innings, striking out two and walking one. Henry Ketter took the loss for Frankfort. The reliever went one-third of an inning, allowing two runs on zero hits, striking out none and walking four. Lane Loiseau, the Wildcats starting pitcher gave up one hit and three runs over three innings, striking out three and walking five.
Henry Ketter went 2-for-3 at the plate and led the team with two runs batted in. Ty Smith earned two of the team's five stolen bases.
